This is a perfect setting for enjoying dinner at the end of an active day, where you can relax and sample the delicious flavors of a variety of produce from Hachimantai.

Enjoy the flavors cultivated in the great Hachimantai climate, all served at their very best. The main dishes at dinner time include locally-produced meat and fish cooked in a stone oven, such as the Tochuu Tea Pork. Thanks to its exposure to far infrared light, the outside of the pork features a crunchy texture, while the inside remains moist and juicy, maximizing its original flavor. At this restaurant, you can enjoy the delicious flavors of Hachimantai to your heart’s content.

In addition to the main dishes, you can also enjoy a buffet offering a wide range of local dishes, such as salads made with fresh vegetables, tempura of mountain vegetables, hittsumi hot pots, kiritanpo rice sticks, and more. Enjoy as many dishes as you like from the buffet, including a range of starters while you wait for the main dishes, some rice or noodle dishes to finish off the meal, as well as some delicious desserts.

Wide selection of high-quality sake from Iwate. Washinoo is a sake brewery located in Hachimantai, that was founded in 1829. Wanting to create sakes that help you to unwind after a long day, the brewers' line-up is focused around sweet offerings that help to achieve this aim, soaking into your weary self as the perfect reward. Baeren Brewery, producing craft beers in Morioka city. The beer brewed on this site that was founded 100 years ago is authentic, handmade beer that respects the traditional European style of beer. It has a luxurious depth of flavor and linger aftertaste, yet is easily quaffable enough to enjoy every day. Another popular product is the Hachimantai wine, a dry, medium-bodied wine created from a blend of specially selected crimson glory grapes which tempers the bitterness of these grapes, resulting in a refined, balanced flavor with soft tannins. We offer a wide variety of local alcoholic drinks.

It is about 3 hours from Tokyo to Morioka train station by bullet train. There is a public bus, which takes about 50 minutes from Morioka station to the resort.

Iwate

The Mountain
Hachimantai is located in Iwate prefecture which is in the northern part of the main island. Hachimantai includes Hachimanai Panorama and Hachimantai Shimokura. Hachimantai Panoramo is more suited to beginners or families. Hachimantai Shimokura should be on your short list if you are searching for new powder mountains in Japan. CAT skiing and backcountry skiing are available, which we can book for you.

The location
It is about 3 hours 30 minutes by Shinkansen and bus from Tokyo and we can help arrange all transfers.

Where to stay
There is no accommodation at Shimokura so the best option is to stay at Hachimantai Mountain Hotel & Spa at Panorama & catch the free shuttle bus

Hotel
The hotel foyer is lovely with plenty of seating and complimentary coffee and soft drink. The staff were always very helpful with timetables and information. There is a change room and luggage storage room available if you want to go skiing while awaiting the usual 3pm check in.

Package
We had a comfortable and spacious Mountain Twin with en-suite on the 4th floor. It had a spectacular view of imposing Mt Iwate and the Panorama Ski Slopes. Our package included breakfast and dinner. Meals in the Shirakawa Dining room were buffet style with lots of variety and were delicious. Although busy, due to the public holiday weekend, it was not noisy or overcrowded. There is a lovely free onsen within the hotel for guests.

Skiing
Due to less than favourable ski conditions we only chose to ski one day. However, after about 10 cm of snow overnight, we spent the next morning checking out Shimokura Ski Resort, a short 10 minute shuttle bus ride away. It’s a great little mountain and definitely worth a return visit. Then in the afternoon, we spent a few hours at Panorama directly behind the hotel, which is absolutely perfect for families. Midweek crowds were nonexistent and we had the mountain to ourselves.

Nearby
The hotel is situated nearby many onsen and we spent a lovely afternoon at the very traditional Matsukawa Kyounso Onsen. We travelled on the unique retro bus. There is also a cafe within walking distance of the hotel, serving simple but delicious lunchtime meals.

Access
To: We travelled from Appi Kogen Ski Resort by highway bus 30 minutes away. This winter season there was one bus each morning that stopped at Hachimantai en route to Morioka.

From: There are several local buses that go to Morioka daily but be mindful that these buses can become crowded and there is no luggage storage. It also takes 1h:30m with many stops. Best to take the highway bus.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hachimantai Mountain Hotel and would definitely recommend a 4 or 5 night stay.
