Oyado Furuya is pleased to provide our guests with a uniquely Japanese stay in Myoko “Oyado” basically means a Japanese-style inn. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, with Japanese design elements even in the rooms with Western beds.
We also take great pride in our Japanese cuisine—and you don’t have to be a staying guest to enjoy a memorable meal at the Furuya. We have perhaps the finest shabu shabu meals in town. Quickly dip tender, thinly-sliced beef in boiling water before dipping it in one of several savory sauces, served with a delicious array of side dishes.
Located right in the center of the main street of Akakura, Myoko’s ski center, Furuya provides quick access on foot to the two major ski resorts in Akakura, and a location close to everything you need, from the shuttle buses to other resorts, to the majority area restaurants and other evening spots. You’ll probably never need to walk more than five minutes (although you may feel like a stroll on a snowy night in downtown Myoko.

The Mountain
Myoko is located in the Niigata prefecture and consits of Akakura (main village), Seki Onsen, Suginohara & Ikenotaira. You can travel by the mountain shuttle bus to go skiing and snowboarding in the other areas. We can arrange the Myoko Big 4 lift passes which are the common ski passes for these four resorts. If it is possible to have one area that tickes all the boxes it is Myoko. Firsty, it has excellent snow, but also a varitey of runs to suit all levels. It is not a big town, but there are plenty of resteraunts and bars to chose from.
Where to stay
The accommodation is mainly Japanese style, yet it still has enough English services such as English speaking lessons & day care and some western style accommodation options.
The Location
It is about 90 minutes from Tokyo to Nagano station by Shinkansen bullet train and change to a local train which takes about 40 minutes to Myoko Kogen Station. We can arrange a pick up and drop off for Myoko Kogen station. But the easiest way to get there would be the direct airport transfers.

It was great to get a more traditional experience at Oyado Furuya. Having our own private onsen to unwind in at the end of a day was superb. The male and female roof top onsen was incredible! It was lovely to sit in amongst the snowflakes!
The food at Oyado was a real highlight. We had both Japanese and Western style breakfasts and they were plentiful and fuelled us for a big day on the slopes. The Kaiseki dinner which showcased some of Myoko’s fine produce and it was certainly a most memorable part of our trip.
The hotel and it’s amenities were of a very high standard and for that reason I would certainly return to Oyado.
The skiing area however wasn’t as challenging and varied as we hoped so will look at alternative locations for our next trip either Shiga Kogen or Hakuba.
