The Mountain
Mt. Naeba is home to two separate resorts which are the Naeba Resort and the Kagura Resort. These two resorts are linked by Japan’s longest gondola called Dragondola. Most of the Naeba visitors are on the green runs at the bottom leaving the intermediate and steeper advanced runs alone. The bottom of Naeba is very wide with multiple lift options & there is one gondola to the top. Essentialy the lift system is very efficient catering to all needs with minimal lift lines. Dining wise Naeba has a large food court open for lunch and a huge choice of restaurants open for dinner. Kagura is accessed by a 20 minute gondala with amazing views. Kagura is a contrasting style to Naeba. It is a lot quieter and you will you will feel more connected with nature. Kagura has a lot of intermediate runs, but for for powder skiers & snowboarders Kagura area has a special lift opening up the back country between 9:30 and 12:00.  Kagura has a choice of individual smaller Japanese style dining options open for lunch scattered across the mountain.

Where to stay
Naeba Prince hotel is the best place to stay with ski in/out accesss and all the convenience of a large resort including western rooms, large choice of dining, ski rental, lessons & Onsen. The Naeba township is only a 5 minute walk if you want to take a walk around.

The Location
Naeba and Kagura are located in the Niigata prefecture on the west coast of Japan. It is about 80 minutes from Tokyo to Echigo-Yuzawa station by Shinkansen (bullet train). There is the public bus from Echigo-Yuzawa station to Naeba which takes about 40 minutes. There is also a free shuttle bus for the guests staying at Naeba Prince Hotel. we can help plan and book all transfers.

I’m so glad to provide feedback about the Kinta. It was the best place we stayed in , in our three weeks skiing in Japan,  and was wonderful.

It was wonderful because the owners really care about their guests and did everything they possibly could to make our stay the best it could be and it was.

The breakfasts and dinners were lovely, not traditional Japanese which we do really enjoy, but they were delicious. Kinta’s recommendations for the best places to eat in Naeba were excellent, and our rooms were comfortable and pleasant. Much nicer than staying in the Prince Hotel !

I would unreservedly recommend the Kinta, thank you so much for bringing it to our attention

Early January 2019

Naeba was quite a surprise with some great lift-accessed intermediate to advanced skiing and powder options, and the rambling Kagura area a gondola ride away.

The Kinta is a quirky piece of post-modern Japanese architecture chock full of wonderful art collected by the owner. We stayed in the tower which was a delight – warm, clean and tidy with a good gear drying room at the door. Breakfasts at The Kinta were western style and beautifully made.

The closest ski lift is only a 5 minute walk away and the town is an easily-accessible 10 minute stroll at night to find ten or so dining options. We caught the local bus from Echigo Yuzawa station (around Y630 ea way) and the owner picked us up from the bus stop – too easy.

Kinta is amazing. We have been twice and both types were fantastic. Great snow, lodge is easy walk to slopes, room is spacious with views, spotless and beautifully furnished. Owners are delightful and do everything they can to help you and make you feel at home. The food they serve up is sensational -4 course meals which were delicious. Lovely indoor/ outdoor onsen overlooking the slopes. This is a high quality lodge and is a very relaxing and enjoyable place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone and both times we went we were so impressed with everything. Loved it!

My friends and I have just returned from our Japanese ski holiday and I just wanted to let you know that we had an amazing time and also wanted to thank you for all the organisation you did for us before hand. Our stays at all of the lodges were fantastic. We were overly impressed by the hospitality, the accommodation and helpfulness of Kinta san at Kinta Naeba and the food they cooked for the evening meals was also amazing. Thanks again for everything you did to help us have a relaxing holiday.
