We had an amazing holiday in Japan, we are a family of 4 with 2 boys and it was such a great experience for us all. Hisae's suggestions and recommendations with regards to accommodation and which mountains to visit were exactly what we were after, Japanese village culture and awesome snow !We stayed at the Kogen Hotel Taizan in Myoko Kogen, a great location in the centre of the small village of  Akakura Onsen, only a few minutes walk to either of the ski areas. The hotel staff were very friendly and the interconnecting room we had was very large for Japanese standards.
